HAPPY BIRTHDAY YAHTZEE!

Our baby turned 7 dog years/1 human year last September 17. Funny that he's still the same... still gnawing at things, still loud (mostly when motorcycles pass by), wrecking everything that comes along his path... still the same creature who makes me look forward to coming home every morning more.

After so many broken combs, books, pees at tires and pictures... HAPPY BIRTHDAY YAHTZEE!!!

UAAP 71st SEASON CHAMPS

I know I don't have to blog about it (it's all throughout the newspapers, news, blogs, and all forms of media...) but I need to - because I was there and I was a part of it

Here's a sweet picture that says it all. :)

ZOE

Ace asked at the post below, "What is a Zoe?"

Zoe is our newest baby, a Nikon d60 (that's her with her Industry Disgrace strap and her Rufous Whistler bag). It has been very long since we wanted a dslr of our own and having a penchant for naming stuff (our guns have names, our iPod has a name...), We decided to christen her Zoe - the name we should've given our puppy if she was a girl.

I guess I should expect a lot of Shutter-Happy posts from now on :P

IS YOUR JAR FULL?

I read this one at a website a couple of months ago. I thought it's one cool way to think of life because sometimes I get so consumed at things, I (honestly) forget what matters. :)

IS YOUR JAR FULL?

When things in your life seem almost to much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar......and the beer.

A Professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the Professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The Professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "Yes."

The Professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the Professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things - your family, your children, your health, your friends, your favorite passions - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything else - the small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first", he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house, and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

When he had finished, there was a profound silence. Then one of the students raised her hand and with a puzzled expression, inquired what the beer represented.

The Professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers."

OF BEING GREEN+MAROON AND BLUE+WHITE (SCHOOL SPIRIT)

So we were able to attend last Saturday's big bash AKA the ADMU-DLSU game (end of Round 2) of UAAP's 71st Season. Even though we were able to get good seats, I unfortunately left the battery of our digicam charging at the office, so unfortunately, no photos/camwhoring for this game :(

Beej had to go to Araneta at 5AM(!) just to fall in line to get tickets. When he arrived, there were about a hundred people already in queue! I arrived late (well, not so late *lol*) to accompany him and buy tickets since they were selling the tix one per person. While we were on the queue, we were able to chit-chat about a loooot of things (they released the tickets around 11am so 5hrs is waaaay over our caffeine night outs) including our families, non-sequitur things and school spirit.

It's no surprise that ADMU-DLSU games are over-hyped, the rivalry being if not the most famous, one the oldest in Philippine basketball. Beats me though if it's automatic that Ateneans and La Sallians hate each other but at the court, it is (and always will be) a very different setting. Maybe it started at the beggining of UAAP (when La Salle moved from NCAA to the former), the various fields that they compete in, the high profile families that attended these schools... I for a fact don't know where it all began but it's safe to say that these schools and their students carry on this tradition/rivalry because of one thing... pride. To know and experience it during the past couple of years (and BJ all his life - he's an Atenista from grade school to college), made me suggest that this epic is carried on mainly because of again, one thing... families.

I told Beej that families carry this on because I thought, if I were from UP, then I'd like my kid to go to UP too when he's able (or if he/she should pass UPCAT *lol*), if he/she wants. Knowing what the institution can do, parents have this "tried-and-tested" knowledge of what being in "that" school would be, thus the suggestion of the attending the school same as where your parents/siblings/relatives have graduated from. It's an entirely different thing again though, if you want your kid to attend schools outside of the country but if you or your kid plans to stay here in Philippines, then you would be doing (or I thought) what I suggested.

Let's face it that if and when we have kids, we would be able to control where they would be going from Pre-School to High School but when college comes, it would be difficult to make them follow suit for a couple of reasons... a. they would most likely attend the school where their High School friends would go, b. the tests that they have to take and pass to be accepted on that school, c. the profession they would choose (universities have different specializations IMHO), d. tuition fees and so on but normally, you would want what's best for your child and if you ask me, then you'd probably be doing the suggestion above.

Also, your kids will see how you acted or have turned out to be as an alumnus of your school. I know I'd take my kid to UAAP games if possible so if he/she sees me then for sure - mahahawa siya. He/she will then inherit the pride, the angst and everything that comes in between - up until he/she gets to decide her own color (no pun intended *lol*).

Of colors, I have been a lot - coming from different universities at such a young age (naks!) but my loyalty lies on 3 combos, the blue and silver (PCU), the green and maroon (UP) and lately, the blue and white (Ateneo). I must say these colors contributed a lot to how I am right now, and I think will be in a lifetime. As schools are our second environment when we leave our homes, this probably too will separate us from the rest and play a big role in molding us as people - in and outside our own domes.

Back to game, we gave ourselves an hour max to eat and when we got inside Araneta C., 1/8 of it was already filled by blue and green. These people (okay, US people) had to wait for 4 hours before their game starts but I guess being the loyal student/alums we are, we really didn't mind waiting. Lucky me, Game 1 was UP-UST (to which we lost) so I really didn't mind the wait. As I stood up to sing "UP naming mahal", I felt a sudden chill, especially when I saw the banner UP had, and at our centennial year at that (we were the host too!). I was so proud to be an Iska. BJ tugged me too saying "Madami kayo o!", pointing to the sea of blue which some people, are also standing, singing our song. I wasn't alone! There were people who also jumped from being a fighting maroon to being a blue eagle! As soon as the hymn ended, Ateneo's drumline began making me pump my fist in the air shouting "Go Ateneo"! 'Twas fun indeed, to actually be there and experience the hype myself as these ADMU-DLSU games are really intense, from the 1st to the 4th quarter. Time-out lang ang upo! Plus, there were a bunch of kids (okay, teenagers) seated in front of us which really annoyed me so everytime the buzzer would sound, Beej and I would get up and cheer even though both of us had no sleep.

I really don't have to blog about how the game went as you can read it from other sites (ubelt.com, etc.) and the news as well but to cap it off, we won 65-57 making me cherish more the twice-to-beat advantage we already had when we won against NU. As the game ended, we sang Ateneo's hymn "A Song For Mary", and clapped when La Salle sang their "Alma Mater Hymn". :)

It's fun to be a part of these things and have different colors under my belt. Para akong Benetton ika nga nila. Now I'm looking forward to ADMU's game against UE and after that, bringing back the pride which was lost 5 years ago. Leaves me saying, "Unibersidad ng Pilipinas! U! One Big Fight!"

Oh yeah, add "Ay lab yu Nonoy (Baclao) to the list. :P

The UP Pep Squad emerged as the champions once again at the Samsung Cheerdance Competition yesterday afternoon. They had an awesome, unique routine albeit the konting sablays which I think is normal (hey, it happened to almost all of the squads and trust me being a cheerdancer myself, you can get it right but not everytime!).

Sorry SDT, better luck next year. :P

KASOU TAISHOU CRAZY

I really applaud the Japanese's creativity.

The other day while BJ and I were burning time YouTube-ing the night/morning away, we decided to look for crazy Japanese noon-time shows and came across ChappieTV's channel, fully loaded with Kinchan no Kasoh Taisho clips.

For those of you living under a rock, this is the show that got "Ping-Pong Matrix" famous. It shows different acts of "fake" cinematic effects, using people and different tools to create an amazing skit (I think they have already created a Philippine-based show for this at GMA-7 called "Masquerade"). "Human Art" is what they call it.

What everybody doesn't know is that this Kasou Taishou show has been running on JapTV for 30 friggin years! Yes m'dears, 30 g.d.'d insane years of cooking up clever antics using manpower and a couple of cardboards. How the hell is that for creativity? No wonder Japan's been evolving so well as a country - they have crazy (and I mean it in a positive note) people who don't give a sh*t about what the whole world thinks and does everything their way - over the top.

I found 2 new favorites to add on my list (one's "The Reason She Got Mad At Me" which I saw ages ago). See below if you're curious enough. The second one's a bit long but if you'll fast forward it to 6:45, it all worth it. :)

"BERS" ARE HERE!

A random "Yahtzee" shot to start the "Ber"-months right. :)
